Marcel Kebekus — SkaMiDan Skating Team

Hello, it’s Marcel Kebekus from Dortmund. However, at the skate park I’m known as Macl.

For a long time I actually had nothing to do with this skate park sport. But I finally came across inline skating through a school musical.

Back then we were doing a musical mashup and part of it was the well-known Starlight Express musical. A musical from Bochum in which the actors play trains and ride across the stage on roller skates and inline skates.

After moving to Dortmund, I was lucky enough to have chosen my place of residence next to a skate park. There I was often out and about on my free skates.

After getting introduced to aggressive skating through social media, it wasn’t long before the skate park became my second home.

There I got to know many different people and children, between whom friendships quickly developed and formed. So I was and still am today very often with skateboarders, scooters and bikers.

When I first started I was the only inline skater. Until I was finally invited to the “Blade Session” in the “WickedWoods” skate hall via Instagram. That was the beginning of solid new friendships.

There, for example, I met Jakob Esselmann (bl8der.jakob), whom I can count as part of my permanent “Blade family” today. I couldn’t have imagined that one day we would ride in the same team (SkaMiDan Skate Team).

That was the starting shot for one of my most active sports days. At least I can’t remember ever being that active in sports, which was never the focus. The focus was and always is the fun in skating.

Since 2020, I have used every free time I had for my biggest hobby, aggressive inline skating. The WickedWood, as well the Dortmund Hombruch skate park have therefore become two very important places for me.

I visited new skate parks and was always out with my “Blade family”. In the other parks, I increasingly noticed that not all sports get along well there. That’s something I didn’t know from my home park.

So we decided to found the “HombruchLocal” community to promote acceptance and tolerance of all types of roller sports.

A conviction that I still share today, because it’s simply more fun to be on the road together and to benefit from each other; #bettertogether.

We traveled a lot together across different sports. Together with the nearby youth leisure center we were able to implement many cool projects for children and young people, especially in the field of action sports.

Eventually, WickedWoods approached me and offered me to take their inline skating courses. So I was able to pass on my enthusiasm for the sport outside of my own skating and share it with joy. I hope that I can motivate many more people to take up this sport.

The openness of my friends and the shared fun in sport made me love this sport. It doesn’t matter whether someone is standing on a scooter, on inline skates, on a bike or skateboard.

The ignorance about the existing competition between the different types of roller sports has made me who I am today and for what I stand for.

At this point I would like to thank everyone who has accompanied me during this time and with whom the sessions and everything else will become highlights to be repeated.

We all do an individual sport that everyone does for themselves, but we are never alone and support each other together.
