Lips, Stalls & Plants – Trick List for Aggressive Inline Skating

In aggressive inline skating, the term “lip” refers to the upper edge of an obstacle — typically a quarterpipe, miniramp, or bowl. The lip is the edge or coping that marks the transition between the ramp and the platform. Tricks performed on the lip are therefore called lip tricks.

With our trick list for lip tricks in aggressive inline skating, you’ll not only dive into the world of lip tricks but also discover new inspiration and exciting additions to your personal trick repertoire — even if you’re a passionate skater with years of experience.

So: get up on the coping and go for it — dance on the edge and develop your signature style!

Your Guide to Lip Tricks in Aggressive Inline Skating

Lip Tricks vs. Grinds – What’s the Difference?

Even though many grinds take place on the lip, they aren’t technically considered classic lip tricks. Lip tricks are defined by the fact that you’re not sliding or grinding along the coping, but instead holding a stable position on the edge. It’s all about balance, style, and body control — not speed or sliding.

Typical grinds like the Soul, Royale, or Topside don’t fall into this category. Instead, the focus is on stalls, handplants, and creative combinations.
Lip tricks like stalls are also great for practicing the positioning and posture required for later grinds — or simply to add more style on lips that are too short to grind.

Whether you're just starting with stalls or already working on invert combos — lip tricks add variety, technique, and personality to your run. They make every session more creative and highlight your sense of rhythm and control.

Handplants & More – Style and Control on Your Hands

A handplant is a trick where you support yourself on the lip with one or both hands while your legs rise into the air or strike a trick pose.

Popular variations include:

  • Invert – A classic one-handed handstand with extended legs.
  • Fastplant – A brief hand touch combined with a foot kick.
  • Palm Flip – A push-off from the lip with one hand, combined with a flip.

Handplants require courage, core strength, and control — and they’re guaranteed to grab attention at any spot.

A less common lip trick is the “Breakdance,” which you’ll also find in our trick list.

Switch-Ups & Lip Dancer – Creative Combinations

The true masters and creatives among us combine various lip tricks and transition from one move to the next on the lip — these are called switch-ups. Here’s where we can fully express our creativity, combine switch-ups with spins, become true lip dancers, and develop our own unique style.

That’s Where Our SkaMiDan Trick List Comes In

We’ve put together a comprehensive collection of lip tricks for you — including stalls, handplants, and more—perfect for learning your first lip tricks or finding fresh inspiration and discovering new moves.
