Care instructions for grind shoes

Care Tips for Grind Shoes – Keep Your Slide Shoes in Top Shape
Grind shoes are built specifically for slides and grinds on rails, curbs, and other obstacles – which means they endure a lot of wear. If you want to enjoy them for a long time, regular maintenance is a must. In this guide, we’ll show you how to keep your grind shoes clean, functional, and durable.

1. After Every Session: Remove Dirt and Debris

Grind shoes often come into contact with dust, dirt, concrete residue, and sometimes even oil – all of which can damage the upper material and grind plates.

  • Clean with a soft brush or damp cloth
  • Remove stones and grime especially from the sole and grind surfaces

If wet:

  • dry them immediately (see point 3)

Tip: The sooner you clean after a session, the easier it is – fresh dirt is less stubborn.

2. Check Soles and Grind Plates

The soles and embedded grind plates (usually plastic or metal) are the core components of your shoes – they must stay clean and intact.

  • Regularly inspect for cracks or heavy wear
  • Tighten screws if your shoes have them
  • Replace parts if worn out (on modular systems)
3. Drying – The Right Way!

After wet sessions or cleaning, drying is essential – but avoid heat!

Never dry on a heater or in the dryer.

Instead:

  • stuff the shoes with newspaper and leave them to dry in a well-ventilated area

Change the paper regularly
Why? Heat can deform materials and cause soles to detach.
Moisture can also lead to bad odors.

4. Avoid Odors

Grind shoes can develop odors quickly – especially when worn without socks.

  • Let them air out thoroughly after each use
  • Use shoe deodorant or a sports shoe spray

Optional:

  • insert activated charcoal insoles or tea tree oil wipes
5. Proper Storage

When not in use:

  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated place
  • Don’t leave them crushed in gear bags or damp basements
  • Ideally store loosely stuffed (with paper) to help them keep their shape
6. Care for the Upper Material

Depending on the material (leather, synthetic leather, mesh, textile):

  • Use suitable care products
  • Regularly waterproof leather
  • Wipe synthetic leather with a damp cloth
  • Clean textile with mild soapy water and a soft brush
Conclusion:

Maintenance = Performance + Durability
Grind shoes aren’t just a fashion item – they’re your tool for street or freestyle skating. With the right care, they stay functional longer, look better, and provide the grip and glide you need.
